It is always a good idea to start early.
We always encourage you to check all assignment materials on the same day that you receive student work for the assignment, and beginning grading early will also help ensure you have everything you need and understand your assignment.
There are some cases where we require or very highly encourage an early start:
- First two assignments: On your first two assignments, we require that you complete grading for the first three students within 24 hours of receiving access to student work. Our team will check these first three to make sure you're on the right track and give you feedback before you continue. Eager to keep going? Contact us when you're ready for coaching, and we may be able to do this quality check a bit sooner than our regularly scheduled monitoring!
- Large assignments: If you are grading a large assignment (6 or more hours of grading), we require that you complete grading for at least three students at least 48 hours before the deadline. This is meant to help with your pacing and get ahead of any issues. We will check in with you via text message in order to make sure that you have completed this step and provide you with any coaching necessary as you continue your assignment.
- New assignment type: If you are grading a new assignment type (e.g. it is your first time grading an AP US History assignment) we very highly encourage you to complete your first three students within 24 hours of receiving student work and to check in with us after you have done so. We will make it a priority to check on your assignment and provide coaching if necessary.
Our team tries our best to check all assignments once they are started, but it is always a good idea to contact us for coaching if you have any questions or if you are unsure of the quality of your feedback. We value our coaching process and encourage Graiders to seek coaching whenever possible! Stronger feedback = happier teachers and students!
